Achieving Greatness: Going Back to Basics

When you think about greatness, who comes to mind? Now, when you think of greatness in basketball, who comes to mind? Michael Jordan is one of the greatest and most accomplished athletes in the history of professional sports. Even if you care nothing about basketball or sports, one may appreciate and admire greatness when you see it.

According to personal trainer Tim Grover, and author of W1NNING (a must-read by the way), Michael Jordan had the most disciplined routine he had ever seen when it came to game day preparation. Jordan had it planned down to the most minute detail. He wouldn’t take a car to the game that hadn’t been freshly washed. Wouldn’t wear a pair of shoes in a game that he had not personally pulled out of the box and laced up himself. Every time he began a warmup in practice, he would begin with a chest pass – one of the most basic, fundamental moves in all of basketball. Debatably the greatest player in sports history and he’s still practicing the basics.

Why is this important? When you have a routine established for work or home life, you don’t have to think, you can just execute. We have enough going on in our lives that we don’t need to add any further stress by thinking about every little thing that has to happen throughout the day. Believe me, I’m right there with you. This was one of the hardest things for me to learn post military discharge. And it still is!

Sure, as a Marine I got yelled at a lot, might not have had the most glamorous digs, and certainly didn’t do it for the money. But, for the better part of all the friggin’ time, the schedule was very structured. From the time I would wake up til we burned every last drop of the midnight oil, all the day’s events were known. This removed thought from my mind and let me fully focus on the mission and task(s) at hand. It allowed me to be completely present. Did I realize this back then? Of course not. I was scatter-brained, young, and terrified.

When it comes to my Real Estate career, I too practice fundamentals – day in and day out. As a luxury real estate agent and a top realtor in Manhattan, I have a routine with each and every one of my clients that ensures their feelings are heard and that their needs are met when it comes to apartment hunting. I plan and execute a course of real estate action to military perfection according to the mission task given by you, the client. You don’t have to worry about finding an apartment in New York getting done or how it’s going to get done, that’s my job. Your job is to come to me with a goal or vision – a desire. I’ll take care of the rest. Get in touch with me today.
