The city’s name is a nod to one of the area’s first settlers who was a British member of Parliament for the county of Pembroke, Wales. When the city incorporated in 1960, it combined the British name with the area’s natural foliage: pine trees. In the ’90s, the city boomed both economically and in population, building the county’s largest charter school system and a beautiful network of green spaces.
